Surpringly engaging and accessible

i find the writing surprisingly engaging and accessible. The suggested exercises are useful. The sample passages are interesting. (Sad that that's surprising, but so many textbooks can be so dry.) A student recommended this book to me and now I'm using it with one of my students.

Engaging and Relevant AP Language Textbook

I have been previewing this book for my AP Language class for the past year. My students seem to appreciate that this book ties into their AP US History class since they feel like they're killing two birds with one stone. This text is useful because it's accessible and relevant, with many interesting readings from a variety of genres and time periods, as well as authors of various backgrounds (i.e., ethnicities and cultural backgrounds). What is more, the questions at the end of each reading selection are pertinent to the study of AP Language. Mostly, I used the reading selections and their questions, but when I skimmed the strategies for reading, I thought them useful. I can't say the spike in my students' AP test scores this year was solely due to this text, but it was certainly a tool for them in preparing for that exam.
